Services from dedicated LEO satellites
As an IoT connectivity operator, Kinéis offers four low cost and low power services to connect your devices in areas where the terrestrial IoT systems are not available.
Data uplink
The data uplink service is designed for each device to transmit up to 96 messages per day (one message = 19 Bytes of data).
Positioning
Devices can be located by the satellites after a few transmissions, with a native positioning system using the Doppler effect. Positioning is an additional service on top of data uplink subscription, which makes it possible to dispense with a GNSS and whose Doppler based locations are unforgeable.
Alerting
This service is the low power and low price solution for rare events alerting.
Data downlink
The data downlink is a service including 3 features, available on top of the data uplink services:
- Kinéis Broadcast, enabling device time synchronization and satellite prediction computation
- Aknowledgement of uplink messages
- Device messaging for configuration commands for premium devices
How does it work?
The workflows of the uplink messages (Mobile Originated) and downlink messages (Mobile Terminated) is described hereafter.
Step | Uplink data collection (Mobile Originated) |
Downlink service (Mobile Terminated) |
---|---|---|
Devices transmit messages to the satellites | Devices receive messages from the satellites | |
Satellites receive the messages from the devices and forward them to the ground stations | Satellites receive the messages from the ground stations and forward them to the devices | |
Ground stations receive encapsulated data from the satellites and forward them to the Mission Center in the encrypted mission telemetry | Ground stations receive encapsulated data from the Mission Center and forward them to the satellites in the encrypted mission telecommand | |
Data are decapsulated by the Mission Center, and then processed by the Service Center | Data originated from the Service Center is encapsulated by the Mission Center to be distributed to the ground stations | |
Data are distributed to the service provider via API, where they are decoded, interpreted and distributed to the end user | Data are pushed from the end user and/or service provider |
How to use satellite connectivity ?
The base of your value-added service will be a Kinéis-connected device that is adapted to your use case. Looking at our partner devices catalog, you might find a device that suits your application.
